Are bugs driving you batty? Consider installing a bat house to attract bats that can eat thousands of insects every night.

During the day most Florida bats want dry narrow crevices in which to roost. Provide these conditions with a properly constructed bat house that you can either build or purchase.

Hang the bat house on a pole at least 12 feet off the ground, but where some shade will keep it from overheating in the Florida sun. Stay at least 20 feet from trees, which can hide bat predators like hawks and owls.

In time, many insect eating bats may come to call your bat house home.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
