Raised beds can be a great way to grow vegetables. They provide more control of the soil and make access and maintenance a lot easier.

Gardening with raised beds isn’t a new concept, and it's not hard to do.

Construct a frame for your raised bed using bricks, concrete blocks, recycled plastic, or wood. You don’t need to be handy, since many simple-to-use kits are available.

Beds can range from a few inches to a couple of feet deep, but keep them only 3 – 4 feet wide so that you can still reach into the middle.

Fill them with a quality soil mix to provide good growing conditions and help maximize your harvest.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
