Description

A butterfly of open forests and adjacent margins, the Red-spotted Purple is a common visitor to wooded yards. The adults seldom visit flowers, feeding instead on fermenting fruit, animal dung and tree sap. The metallic blue-black adults mimic the toxic Pipevine Swallowtail. | Photos by Jaret Daniels
