Description

Our largest and arguably most impressive Florida butterfly. The boldly striped males are unlikely to be confused with any other species. While males are always yellow, females may be either yellow-and-black striped or primarily black to mimic the pipevine swallowtail. Adults often fly high above the forest canopy but readily come down to visit flowers. Unlike most other swallowtails, they do not flutter their wings while feeding. Fond of bright-colored flowers. | Photos by Jaret Daniels
