Description

As its name implies, this skipper is a denizen of shady subtropical hammocks, adjacent margins and trails. The adults have a strong, rapid flight but regularly land on overhanging vegetation where they are often easy to observe. The larvae utilize Jamaican Dogwood, a common native and widely planted landscape tree. As a result, the skipper may be commonly encountered in neighborhoods, parks and even parking lots where the tree is found. | Photos by Ryan Fessenden and Jaret Daniels
