Your lawn probably needs a lot less water than you think. Overwatering not only wastes water but can cause more damage to your lawn than a drought!
How much irrigation your lawn needs depends on what kind of grass you have, your yard’s conditions, and the weather. Before turning on the sprinklers, wait until your grass starts wilting or looks blue gray in color, then apply only one-half to three-quarters of an inch of water.
Less frequent, deeper watering helps grow deeper roots, which makes your grass more drought tolerant.
If you have an automatic home irrigation system, make sure it is set properly and doesn’t run while it’s raining.
