Looking at a map of Florida, it’s easy to see that our state is surrounded by water and covered with a wonderful network of connected waterbodies. Even if you don’t live on the water, what you do in your landscape can affect Florida’s water bodies

That’s because water that runs off or filters through your landscape can carry excess fertilizers and pesticides into our water system.

If you choose to fertilize or apply pesticides, always follow UF/IFAS rates and schedules, label requirements and local ordinances.

Never dump unused fertilizer or pesticides on the ground or down household or storm drains. Dispose of them by bringing them to a household hazardous waste collection site.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
