Transcript
Plants need nutrients to grow, and typically get them from the soil but sometimes fertilizers can help plants along. Apply the right type of fertilizer at the right time for best results without negatively impacting the environment.
In many cases your turfgrass will need a different fertilizer than your shrubs or palms.
Plants also benefit from the right amount of fertilizer.
Overfertilizing can aggravate pest problems and stimulate excessive growth. It can also cause pollution of our waterways and groundwater, so a slow release fertilizer or lower rates applied more frequently may be the best option.
If you choose to fertilize, make sure you follow UF/IFAS guidelines and local ordinances.
Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
