Rain gauges are useful tools for weather watching and can contribute to healthier plants, too.

Many plants need at least some water during the warm months, but keep in mind that you only need to water if it has not been raining. So, a rain gauge can help you keep track of how much rain your landscape is getting.

Rain gauges can be as simple as a graduated tube or as elaborate as a fully automated weather station that you monitor on your smart phone.

No matter which one you choose, get an accurate rain measurement by placing your gauge in the open, away from trees, the house, and irrigation systems.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
