Episode #139 | Original Air Date: September 10, 2020
The saw palmetto is an excellent choice for homeowners looking for a low growing, clumping palm. This bushy Florida native grows in full sun or shade on any well-drained soil. And it is highly salt tolerant, making it an excellent choice for a seaside landscape.
Because its multiple trunks grow along the ground, the saw palmetto’s large fan shaped leaves create a dense, visually interesting ground cover. Small yellowish flowers line the tall floral stalks that emerge in the spring and are excellent nectar sources for pollinators.
Needing only rainfall once it is established, the saw palmetto is very drought tolerant, making it a great Florida Friendly Landscaping choice.
