Episode #399 | Original Air Date: September 9, 2021
The mailbox can be an overlooked design element in your yard. However, a well-executed planting plan can create a mailbox island that complements your Florida friendly landscape.
Since the mailbox is often isolated out by the street, focus your planting plan on low growing varieties of drought tolerant, low maintenance shrubs that will not require you to water or fertilize them.
Remember that a mailbox is used nearly every day, so easy access is important. Your mail carrier will appreciate it if you avoid planting rambling vines with sticky saps, like confederate jasmine, anything with sharp leaves or thorns, or anything that will attract bees or other stinging insects.
