Tree limbs that touch power lines can create a potentially serious hazard.
If you live in a neighborhood that has above-ground power lines, plan carefully before planting trees and avoid locations where the trees can grow into the lines.
Select trees that are either narrow and columnar, like alta magnolia, that won’t spread into the lines, or trees with a short mature height, like chickasaw plum or two-winged silverbell, that won’t ever reach the lines.
For help selecting trees with the right size and shape, talk to the staff at your county Extension office. Proper planning now will save unnecessary pruning down the road, and will help keep you safe!
