Episode #64 | Original Air Date: May 28, 2020
There are many ways to propagate plants, such as cuttings, tissue culture, and layering. Layering is an easy propagation technique that produces a new plantlet while it is still attached to the parent plant.
In layering, prior to removal, the newly forming plantlet receives water and nutrients from the parent plant while its roots are developing.
Layering outdoors works best in the spring and summer -- but can be performed during any season.
Different plants may be easier to reproduce with different layering techniques. The time it takes for the new plantlet to form new roots will depend on the type of plant material and the season.
