Plants need nutrients to grow, and usually get them from the soil. Its not always necessary to fertilize your plants or lawn, but if you choose to fertilize, its important to do so properly.

We fertilize plants to enhance growth and correct nutritional deficiencies but overfertilizing can aggravate pest problems, stimulate excessive growth, and contribute to the pollution of our waterways and groundwater.

Always keep fertilizers off hard surfaces and never fertilize within 10 feet of any water body.

And before you apply fertilizer, make sure you follow UF/IFAS guidelines and your local ordinances for times, products and rates.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
