One of the most frequently encountered native mammals in our Florida landscapes is the endlessly ingenious but potentially pesky gray squirrel.

These bushy-tailed rodents are common in urban areas, especially where there are oak trees, gardens, and bird feeders to provide them with plenty of food.

It is important to remember that we are sharing our landscapes with wildlife even if it can be frustrating when they dig for seeds or nibble on landscape plants.

When trying to discourage squirrels from taking up residence in your landscape, the solution may be as simple as moving potted plants indoors, ensuring your using squirrel proof feeders and cleaning up any seeds dropped by birds.
