Transcript
Mulch is any material applied to the soil surface to protect or enhance the landscape. Traditional mulches are made from bark, pine needles, or chipped hardwood, but alternative mulches are growing in popularity.
Melaleuca mulch is made from the invasive Melaleuca trees and is cured at a high temperature to kill any seeds so they won't germinate in your garden. Other by-product mulches include pecan or cocoa bean shells.
Fast growing Eucalyptus trees are grown specifically to be made into mulch and are considered a renewable resource.
Leaves also make a great mulch, so instead of putting all those leaves curbside in plastic bags to be hauled off, use them to benefit your landscape.
Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
