Episode #99 | Original Air Date: July 16, 2020
Florida’s soils have a reputation for being especially sandy, but Florida actually has a variety of soil types and you should always choose your plants with your soil’s characteristics in mind.
North and Central Florida soils are typically very sandy and organic amendments may be needed. Soils in the panhandle often contain lots of clay, which can lead to compaction and slower drainage.
Down in the northern Everglades, soils tend to be peat-based and extremely fertile and may not need amendments at all.
Finally, in extreme South Florida, soils are often just a shallow layer over limestone bedrock and can be a challenge to any home landscape.
