Home environments can be tough on plants, especially during winter, when plants dry out quickly with the low humidity.

So, which houseplants are best for the forgetful gardener?

If watching your peace lily wilt doesn’t remind you to water, try plants that take drought in stride: pothos, cast-iron plant, or spider plant work for low-light rooms. Aloe, ponytail palm, and Christmas cactus grow well in high light.

Look for houseplants that are well rooted and healthy. Plant them together in larger containers with a good quality potting mix.

If you haven’t had success with houseplants, try one of these suggestions. Just don’t forget to water them at least once in a while!

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
