Plants need water, but not all water is equally good for them. The quality of the water you use can affect their success.
Water from coastal wells and aquifers often contains salt, especially when water levels are low. Salt tolerant plants are a good choice for these landscapes.
“Hard” water has lots of dissolved minerals, which can clog irrigation systems and leave white, filmy deposits on plants.
Other irrigation water may have a high pH, which can interfere with how plants absorb iron and other needed micronutrients, leading to leaf yellowing and deformed growth.
Your county Extension office can help you get your water tested if you suspect any problems.
