Episode #65 | Original Air Date: May 29, 2020
Florida has incredibly diverse wildlife, but natural habitats are diminishing. Homeowners can help by including wildlife friendly landscape elements in their yards.
Wildlife need food, water, cover, and space. Add trees and plants, including natives, that bear fruit and seed in your landscape. Plant flowers for nectar gathering butterflies, birds, and bees. Add shrubs for cover and maybe provide a birdhouse or nest box.
If you don’t have a natural water source, consider building a small pond or adding a birdbath.
Practice integrated pest management to protect your wildlife visitors, especially the pollinators. And keep your cat indoors as they are natural hunters, even if they are already well fed.
