Canna leaf rollers are hungry caterpillars that can be frustrating pests for gardeners throughout Florida.

As their name implies, rolled leaf edges are a telltale sign of canna leaf rollers, which especially favor those cannas with red leaves or orange or red flowers.

Canna leaf rollers come in two sizes and colors. Lesser canna leaf rollers are tiny and yellow, while larger canna leaf rollers are green and can be two to three inches long. Both types can infest your cannas at the same time.

If you need to get rid of them, it’s best to just hand-pick the leaf rollers and destroy them, since they can be difficult to target with insecticides.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
