Using garden edging is a great way to beautify your home’s surroundings while helping define different landscape components, such as garden beds and recreational areas.

Edging can also help highlight shrubs and trees, contain mulch, keep plants from spreading, and reduce mowing time.

Choose edging materials based on your budget and the landscape look you’re going for.

Wood edging is both natural and versatile. Choose wood that’s more resistant to decay but remember that all wood products will need to be replaced every few years.

For a more durable border material, try stone, brick, concrete, plastic, or aluminum. You can also plant a groundcover or other plants for a natural border.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ in a Minute is a production of the University of Florida’s Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program, IFAS Extension, and WUFT-FM in cooperation with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
