Native azaleas, also known as bush honeysuckle, are attractive plants for the North or Central Florida garden.

Fragrant native azaleas bloom around the same time as other azaleas, in the spring, but the trumpet-shaped flowers are smaller and more delicate-looking than those of non-native azaleas. The colors are just as spectacular, ranging from pink to peach to yellow.

The native azalea is drought tolerant once established and will slowly grow up to ten feet tall. It will lose its leaves in the winter and like all azaleas, it prefers a well-drained, acidic soil and filtered sunlight.
