Florida is a coastal state, and many landscapes suffer from salt spray, saltwater intrusion in groundwater, and the application of salty reclaimed water. But you can have a beautiful landscape even in saline conditions.

Plants that are native to the coast are salt tolerant and are great options. But there are many other Florida-friendly plants to choose from. Bougainvillea is a beautiful vine. Perennials like sea oats, shrubs like natal plum, and groundcovers, including dune sunflower and shore juniper, make good selections.

For trees, live oaks and red cedar are good choices.

For lawns, many types of St. Augustine and zoysia grass will tolerate salty coastal conditions.
