First Step Ideas
Here are a few ideas to help you get started:
- Identify Your Plants: Knowing what plants are in your landscape is the first step for knowing how to care for them!
- Use the FFL Plant Guide app to help you select Florida-Friendly plants that will thrive in your yard.
- Check the UF/IFAS assessment list and remove plants identified as invasive.
- Conserve Water: If you use an irrigation system, turn it off. Only irrigate when your landscape shows signs of drought stress.
- Add Mulch: A 2- to 3-inch layer of mulch makes a difference! Mulch retains soil moisture while suppressing weeds. Select a Florida-Friendly mulch such as pine, melaleuca, or eucalyptus.
